This Thursday 27th May there will be a benifit concert held in support of the NGO Nepalise Rural Development Forum.

The money collected will make it possible to partly finance, the transfer of clean drinking water to 9 villages in the Himalayas which are located at around 60km from Kathmandu. Nestled between India and China on the rooftop of the world, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. Although the villages are mainly self-sufficing their resources are increasingly limited.

In addition, with the increase of temperatures due to global warming, water sources are drying up with villagers having to walk hours every day to fetch water.

The O.N.G. Rural Development Forum is made up from Nepalese members only. The association Lumières du Népal, based in Ludon-Medoc, is activily and independantly taking action in the support of social, educational and medical assistance in Nepal.

    The gig will bring together:

    • Shaolin Temple Defenders (Funk/Soul) … aptly named?!
    • Isotrope (Funk/Rock/Fusion)
    • Cloudmaker (Prog Rock)
    • Raphaeli (Ragga/Dancehall)

    When: Thursday; 27th May 2010 @ 8pm
Where: l’espace Tatry, 170 Cours du Médoc, 7 galerie Tatry, Bordeaux
    Cost: €10

Drum and percussion fans get ready… this Saturday 5th June is the Drums Addict Festival.

The Drums Addict Festival accomodates some of the best drummers and musicians from all musical styles (rock, jazz, funk, caribéennes, etc) and all over the world.

Drums Addict Festival is an ‘All-About-Drums’ dedicated event offering multiple shows for the audience to attend, spread over an 10-hour schedule. Each show introduces one or more drummers in different musical atmospheres, playing solo or with a band.

What makes Drums Addict Festival unique is interactivity. People in the audience can ask any question to the artists about their career or their technique using wireless microphones. The artists can then answer by a direct demo to illustrate their explanation, which can be detail-viewed on the giant video screen. This is accomplished with the help of our 6 on-stage camera operators who capture the artist’s performance from multiple angles, live-mixed by our production team.

For this the 5th annual beat-off (can I say that?) is:

        When: Saturday 5th June, 2010
Where: Espace Medoquine, 224, cours du Mal Gallieni, 33400  TALENCE

Being an expat in Bordeaux you most likely will have found yourself in the Frog and Rosbif Pub one time or another… whether it be their choice of house brewed beers, to catch a match or even just to have a yarn with a fellow traveller.

Toulousain event poster with different date.

“Housed in a former women’s prison built in the 16th century, The Frog & Rosbif is the only pub in Bordeaux brewing its own beers. Hops and malt are shipped in from England and brewed in the middle of this magnificent stone building.”

This Friday night will be a reason to celebrate as the Frog is turning ten! As per their usual custom of dress up parties, this one is going to be themed as a ‘Jail House Rock’ night (i.e: dress like a prisoner, Elvis, OJ Simpson, etc).
