The festival of the music 2010 in Bordeaux, will take place on the 21st June. It is an occasion for the amateur and professional musicians and groups to share their passion to anyone and everyone that will listen.

The idea was first broached in 1976 by American musician Joel Cohen, then employed by the national French radio station France Musique. Cohen proposed an all-night music celebration at the moment of the summer solstice. The idea was taken up by French Music and Dance director Maurice Fleuret for Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1981 and first took place in 1982.

For this the 28th edition of the festival, you’ll be able to find free concerts, street performances and markets.

The festival of the music is an event coordinated by the ministry of culture, which makes it possible for the public to discover various different musical genres by the means of completely free concerts.

The festival is open to anyone that would like to perfom. The musicians who envisaged to play outside, on the terrace of a bar or on the street/place for example, must require a municipal authorisation of temporary occupation. The Black Diamond Heavies hail from Nashville, Tennessee but spend most of their time in van unleashing their punk-ass blues all over the world, ‘This Tennessee-Hailing Duo have produced a debut of filthy Southern blues that makes the Black Keys seem like choirboys’.

Wesley Myers and Van Campbell baptise you in beatific raptures of Hammond, Rhodes and Drums, literally stripping the sound down to its scantily-clad soul. Almost too perfectly Myers is the literal son of a (Baptist) preacher man, whereas Campbell descends from a Bourbon-distilling family.

Their live show has been described as both ‘Pentecostal’ and ‘Demon-Possessed’. Most of the material is original, although covers are sometimes thrown in as tribute to gods, generals, heroes, and vampires such as John Lee Hooker, T-Model Ford, Muddy Waters, Nina Simone, and Tom Waits.

The Heavies tour internationally and constantly and have shared the stage with many notable acts including Son Volt, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Immortal Lee County Killers, Thee Shams, Jimbo Mathus, Kenny Brown, and Scott H Biram.

Allez les Filles have organised this gig as the Deep Blues Tribal Garage. Other acts on the night include, Left Lane Cruiser (USA) & Henry’s Funeral Shoe (UK).

When: Tuesday, 10th August @ 7pm
Where: Place St Michel, 33000 Bordeaux
Cost: Free!
