Save the date for the BLIB 2018!!*
Now in its fourth blistering year, the Bières Libres et Indépendantes de Bordeaux has become a permanent local event held every September – committed to discovering the hop beverage in all its spectacular facets.
From humble beginnings, the festival is now famous across France, with the single goal of promoting the interest and culture surrounding craft and locally produced beers.
Quality, companionship, good times and sharing: read on for more details!
What’s it all about?
A local band of enthusiasts has decided to return BEER to the acclaimed standing it deserves. They’ve had enough of hearing that beer is limited to a single colour, that it is served only as an aperitif or in front of football matches, that it does not have its place at the dinner table… They work tirelessly to prove to the general public that it is indeed a gastronomic and authentic product.
Celebrating beer in the land of wine…
With more than 30 brewers, a continually increasing number, Gironde is following the trend that has been taking shape all over for France for the last several years: a bona fide beer explosion. There are now 1,100 breweries in France, compared to 300 ten years ago!
This revival is being felt across Bordeaux, where a plethora of brewpubs, bars and cellars specialising in traditional beer have taken off and gone into orbit. Many wine merchants, supermarkets and restaurants also now offer craft beers, often locally produced.
Beer is the drink with the greatest diversity in terms of colour and aromatic palette. From the light and refreshing blonde lager with fruity flavours to more complex aromas aged in barrels, there really is no limit to a brewer’s creativity.
How’s the festival gonna roll out?
The 4th edition of the BLIB will take place from the 25th to the 29th September 2018 in Bordeaux and its surroundings. Over five days, dozens of partner venues in Bordeaux and the local area (bars, cellars, restaurants, breweries…) will organize events around quality beer: tasting workshops, discovery of ingredients, brewers’ meetings, food pairings, conferences, brewery visits, public brewing, and presentation of the official beer of the Festival…
It will close this year with a Grand Finale, in the form of a lounge at the Palais de la Bourse, Bordeaux’s emblematic square, with 50 French and international brewers who will come in person to taste and talk about their products. Because as always, it is above all the human side of beer that BLIB is keen to honour.
