In addition to Venice and Malaga, the Spanish airline ‘Volotea‘ will add Ajaccio, Bastia, Ibiza, Palermo and Toulon to their roster.
The fledgling low-cost airline has definitely arrived in Merignac. The CEO, Carlos Munoz, unveiled back in March a program to open seven lines from the Gironde platform. In addition to Venice and Malaga, already announced, they will service Ajaccio, Bastia, Palermo, Ibiza and Toulon. The launch of these new routes will run between April 25 (Venice) and August 1 (Toulon), most other openings taking place in June. According to the destinations, the frequencies will be two to four flights a week.
Volotea offers very low rates, at €29. However, only a fraction of seats will be sold at that price. Food and drinks will of course come at a cost. All checked baggage will be cost €15 (up to 23kg).
This expansion in destinations will be welcomed by the airport, which in 2011 passed the milestone of 4 million passengers, and whose traffic grew by 10% since the start of January!
