Curry By Air 2018

James Emery, pilot and curry enthusiast based in southwest France, has teamed up with the Akash, one of Portsmouth’s oldest and best loved curry houses, and Iroise Aéro Formation, a top French flying school, for a very special delivery order.

The concept

On 13 January 2018, a Diamond DA42 aircraft operated by Iroise Aéro Formation, will depart from Brest Airport for LeeOn-Solent Airfield in the south of the UK.

Once there, it will be filled to the brim with Indian Takeaway food, which will then be flown to Bordeaux Saucats Airfield, located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan wine region. Local curry lovers are cordially invited to the airfield on 13/1/18 from 7pm onwards, for an evening of curry, beer, and good company.

Practical Information

Location of the meal
Bordeaux Saucats Airfield, 303 Avenue de Mont de Marsan,
33850 Léognan, France
Start time
7pm

Cost of the meal
40 EUR per person, to be paid online directly to the restaurant in GBP.

The price includes a main course, vegetable side dish, rice, naan bread, and one drink per person. Additional drinks will be available to purchase on the night.

The menu

Main courses

  • Chicken Tikka Massala (Mild)
  • Lamb Balti (Medium)
  • Bengal Naga Chicken (Hot)

Vegetable sides

  • Vegetable samosas
  • Onion bhaajis

Breads

  • Plain Naan
  • Cheese Naan

How to book your place

Please send an email to currybyair@gmail.com or alternatively phone James on +33 (0)677 636 841.
It would help if you could let us know your menu choices in advance. Vegetarian versions of all dishes are available on request.

Payment is to be made via the restaurant’s website (a special link will be provided).

The legal bit (terms and conditions)

The boring stuff

First of all, we would like to make it very clear that light aviation flights are never a 100% guaranteed certainty!

While the aircraft we will be using is well equipped and the pilots highly qualified, it simply cannot
fly in all weather in the way that commercial jets can.

For this reason, the meal is susceptible to be cancelled right up until the morning of the event.

Cancellations

All payments are strictly non-refundable for the simple reason that we have to pay for the plane and the pilots. It goes without saying that if the flight is cancelled due to weather or any other operational reason, all payments will be refunded in full.

If the meal were to be cancelled, the airfield has an excellent restaurant on site which would be happy to serve you up a (less spicy!) alternative meal.

About the organisers

James Emery (Aviation English Private School)

www.aeps.aero
James started his career as a professional translator and interpreter before gaining his pilot’s licence in 2014. Since then, he has worked as an aviation English trainer and tester, as well as running an online training website for French pilots looking to gain their English qualification. In his spare time, he organises aviation events at a variety of airfields around Europe.

Faz Ahmed (The Akash Restaurant)

Together with his brother Jaf, Faz manages the Akash restaurant, situated in the vibrant, international Albert Road area of Portsmouth in the UK. Founded in 1978 by their dad George, the restaurant is an institution for local curry lovers.

Gabriel Olivier (Iroise Aéro Formation)

www.iroiseaeroformation.com
Iroise Aéro Formation is one of France’s top flying schools, offering full training courses for both professional and private pilots. It is also one of the only facilities in France able to train pilots in house for their Single-Engine-Turbine (SET) rating, using the school’s very own Socata TBM700.
